Refractive Surgery summarizes a group of different surgical procedures with one common goal: To correct refractive errors by changing the refractive power of the cornea or lens.
The surgical procedures are aimed to correct the refractive error in a manner that light rays or images come to focus sharply on the retina without the use of additional corrective devices.
This rather new area of eye care specializes in helping individuals with complex vision disorders and those who have trouble with ordinary corrective devices (e.g., glasses or contact lenses). Therefore, Refractive Surgery provides a valuable alternative to ordinary methods:
No more sliding of eye glasses down the nose, no more limitations to the field of vision, no more tearing eyes or allergic reactions due to contact lenses.
However:
If the use of eyeglasses or contact lenses gives you perfect vision and you have no problems with their use, you have no reason to undergo surgery. Out of all corrective devices, eyeglasses are certainly the easiest to use. Contact lenses , especially hard contact lenses, provide the best optical correction of refractive errors, even though their use can be challenging at times.
Surgical correction of refractive errors is not possible for all individuals and certain risks are associated with a surgical procedure. In order to find out if your refractive error is treatable with this type of corrective procedure, an assessment of your medical history and a careful examination of your eyes by an experienced ophthalmologist are crucial.
Our role as a non-profit organization is to provide you with comprehensive information and consultation. This is why we present to you all scientifically recognized procedures including their possible risks and side effects |
