With the use of today's procedures of refractive surgery, the risk of serious complications is a minor one. However, as with any medical procedure, it can never be excluded completely.
Some patients experience dry eye symptoms after laser eye surgery (LASIK). If treated with artificial tears, the symptoms will eventually disappear.
There is also a risk of eye infections, increased glare, and distorted vision.
It is also possible that overcorrections or undercorrections are achieved, for example if there was too much or too little laser ablation of the corneal tissue or if the lens dimensions were calculated inaccurately.
In case of a malcorrection, a second procedure may become necessary. Generally, an experienced ophthalmic surgeon should be able to eliminate a malcorrection.
The best requirements for a positive result are ...
- the choice of the right surgery procedure
- treatment by an experienced ophthalmic surgeon, and
- good patient cooperation by careful observation and postoperative care. |
