Laser eye surgeries are a question of confidence. For patients looking for the right clinic and surgeon, an objective proof of quality is of special importance.

LASIK TÜV SiegelInitiated by the VSDAR, and in cooperation with leading LASIK specialists, a "LASIK-TÜV" quality certification was developed. It allows laser centers to have the quality of their work confirmed by an impartial third party.

The LASIK-TÜV benefits people seeking vision correction with LASIK, Femto-LASIK or LASEK. LASIK (laser assisted in situ keratomileusis) is the most common surgical procedure, accounting for over 90% of all laser eye surgeries.

In Germany alone, those surgical procedures are performed by over 300 specialized institutions. So far, many people suffering from refractive errors refrain from corrective surgery of the cornea because they find it difficult to choose between the high number of treatment offers.

High Demands

The LASIK-TÜV focuses on instruments and organizational procedures as well as the qualifications and experience of the surgeons and other staff. It also keeps an eye on hygiene requirements, treatment results and patient satisfaction. is questioned at regular intervals.

The LASIK-TÜV criteria catalogue includes very specific requirements, such as:
- Certified surgeons must provide evidence of > 1,000 LASIK surgeries performed
   independently over the last five years;
- patients must be informed in detail about the risks involved in the surgical procedure;
- every medical centre offering LASIK surgery must employ a hygiene officer;
- blades of microkeratomes may only be used once.
